I teach acoustic guitar and, occasionally, songwriting at Guitar Retreats in venues across Britain and in Europe. I also do a very limited amount of private tuition covering all levels of mainstream acoustic guitar, and songwriting.

GUITAR RETREATS: These are run by the Guitar Retreats company under the overall direction of Stuart Marshall, one of Britain’s most charismatic and respected group tutors and the creator of Guitar Retreats. I feel hugely privileged to be one of GR’s group of tutors. We get to teach and play in some of the most beautiful parts of the UK, France, Portugal and Spain, with small groups of wonderful people… relative beginners, improvers and those who’ve been playing for years, all learning as much from each other as they do from lessons.

The retreats are a mix of group and one-to-one sessions, and each night turns into a singaround.The word ‘retreat’ is as important as the word ‘guitar’, so the venues are all in places where you can find some peace and personal space…sweeping beaches on Portugal’s Algarve, under grapevines in the Dordogne, or looking out over the Atlantic from a beach on the Scilly Isles.

As you might imagine, 2020 physical retreats were paused by Covid (though, as you can see pictured, we continued with day-long Zoom retreats). Details of new guitar breaks will be posted on the Guitar Retreats website www.guitar-retreats.co.uk

PERSONAL TUITION: I teach one-to-one sessions by FaceTime, Zoom or Facebook‘s Video Messenger. Teaching online works very well.The size of, say, a tablet screen allows you to concentrate solely on the guitar. And it means that, just like at a Retreat, I can work with people nationwide.
